In an exciting initiative to advance the conservation of the kingdom's marine environment, the Red Sea Research Center (RSRC) at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) hosted the KAUST-KFUPM Workshop on Biodiversity from May 16th to May 18th, 2023. The workshop marked a significant milestone in the ongoing KAUST-KFUPM conversation series, which aims to foster collaborative efforts between the two esteemed institutions.
As part of this engaging workshop, a delegation of esteemed colleagues from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) participated, further enhancing the spirit of collaboration and knowledge exchange. The event served as a platform to initiate potential collaborative projects and strengthen kingdom-wide partnerships.
The agenda for the workshop featured a diverse range of topics related to biodiversity and marine research. Renowned researchers from both institutions delivered compelling presentations on subjects such as the changing Red Sea environment, coral reef resilience, seaweeds, sea turtles, nudibranchs, mangrove ecosystems, and many more! Bridging knowledge of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf.
One of the highlighted contributions came from Dr. Shannon Klein, a research scientist at TAJRC. Dr. Klein presented a talk on the research conducted by our group, delving into the depths and shallows of the Red Sea. Her expertise and insights enriched the discussions, providing valuable perspectives for collaborative endeavors.
The event underscored the importance of collaboration in addressing the challenges faced by our marine ecosystems and emphasized the need for ongoing research and knowledge sharing.
