Amanda Maishella is a master’s student in the marine science master’s program at KAUST starting in 2023. She is a geospatial analyst who earned her B.Sc. in Cartography and Remote Sensing from Gadjah Mada University in 2022 after completing an undergraduate thesis about assessing pan-sharpened PRISMA Hyperspectral satellite image for seagrass composition mapping. Her undergraduate program was about geographic information science, so focusing on remote sensing for coastal and ocean was her personal decision.
During her undergraduate studies, Shella joined the Blue Carbon Research Group UGM and Coastal Biodiversity Remote Sensing Group UGM. She and the team were involved in several multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral scientific research projects mainly on blue carbon mapping algorithm development and benthic habitat biodiversity mapping. After graduation, she worked in mangrove restoration working group under the Community Empowerment Department of Peat and Mangrove Restoration Agency (BRGM) in Indonesia. She then worked handling cooperation and public relations in the planning department at the Korea-Indonesia Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center before she moved to Saudi Arabia to start her master's studies.
